Alycia Shaw joined Jewitt McLuckie & Associates LLP in February of 2016. Prior to joining JM&A, Alycia worked at the largest private sector union local and the largest union in Canada. She represented public and private sector locals at grievance Arbitration Boards and administrative tribunals on a wide range of matters. Alycia also advised on strategic collective agreement administration and participated in collective agreement negotiations, at times as part of the bargaining team, in the long-term care and social services sectors. She facilitated training workshops for union representatives and local members on a wide range of topics such as: preparing for arbitration, understanding the arbitration process, and the duty to accommodate.
Prior to attending law school, Alycia obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Labour Studies from McMaster University. During her graduate studies, she was an active CUPE Local 3906 member and a Teaching Assistant in the Labour Studies Department. Alycia obtained her J.D. from the University of Ottawa in 2011. During law school, Alycia was a Research Assistant to the Vice-Dean, active in Pro Bono Students Canada and an Executive Member of the Asian Law Students Association and the Canadian Lawyers Association for International Human Rights.
Alycia’s labour practice includes representing a wide range of public sector workers and other unionized employees in all aspects of labour law including unjust terminations and unfair labour practice complaints. Her employment practice includes wrongful dismissal litigation as well as human rights complaints. Alycia has appeared before Arbitration Boards, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board and the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice.
Alycia was previously a committee member of the Canadian Bar Association Women Lawyers Forum where she drafted articles and collaborated with other committee members to manage and prepare WLF newsletters. She is currently a member of the Canadian Labour Lawyers Association and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.
Alycia enjoys an active lifestyle. She is also an aspiring world traveller, most recently travelling to Australia to hike around Uluru and explore the Great Barrier Reef.
